Memorial service for James "Jimmy" Wyatt Killingsworth, 80, will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Barr-Price Funeral Home, 609 Northwood Rd., Lexington, SC. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Men's Ministry at Red Bank Baptist Church, 1357 S Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29073 or The American Diabetes Association (ADA).
Born in Denmark, SC Mr. Killingsworth known by friends and family as “Jimmy” passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. James was a graduate of Denmark-Olar High School. He went on to continue his education at the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in Louisville, KY, graduating with a degree in Mortuary Science. After his return to South Carolina, Jimmy became a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in 1966. During Jimmy's career in funeral service he has worked at Whitaker Funeral Home, Dunbar Funeral Home and Shives Funeral Home. He also worked at Providence Hospital as a Pre-Admission Coordinator for 27 years, then returned to Shives Funeral Home, where he retired in 2011. Following his retirement in 2011, he began an association with Barr-Price Funeral Homes as a Funeral Director and Embalmer.
He and his family are members of Red Bank Baptist Church where Jimmy has served as President of the Men's Ministry. Prior to his membership at Red Bank Baptist Church, he was a member of St. Timothy Episcopal Church where he served on the Advisory Board of Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, as an Acolyte, a Sunday School teacher, and was elected to the Vestry. He was also a Cub Scout Master for 5 years at Westminster Presbyterian Church, and served on the Eagle Scout Advisory Board. He is a member of the Lexington Masonic Lodge 152, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and York Rite Mason, and he is associated with the Gideons. His hobbies included riding his Honda Shadow Motorcycle, camping, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving include his wife, Carolyn C. Kilingsworth; daughter, Brandi Maurer (Will); grandchildren, Ashlynn Wagner, Wyatt Wagner, Aubree and Gianna Maurer; sister, Adeline Gross (Tony); and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents, James M. and Carolyn L. Killingsworth of Denmark, SC.
