Job Summary/Purpose: The Morgue Program Coordinator reports to the Laboratory Manager. Under limited supervision, the Morgue Program Coordinator is responsible for the Office of Mortuary Services. This role conducts the affairs of that office in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies. This position assists the pathology manager in supervision and coordination of Mortuary Services Office and Autopsy section. The Morgue Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for all operations of the Mortuary Services Office. This position serves as liaison and representative for the University on all matters pertaining to mortuary affairs; supervises and directs the proper disposition of bodies brought to or received from any area of the MUSC complex; supervises the Hospital Mortuary, its activities and personnel, and is responsible for maintaining mortuary and autopsy supplies and equipment.

Minimum Training and Education: High School diploma or GED and current dual funeral director/embalmer license issued by the state of South Carolina and leadership experience in a mortuary or funeral home environment is required. A bachelor degree with major in biological science or funeral science and five years of mortuary or funeral home experience is preferred. Must be well versed in professional ethics and possess a natural ability for public relations. Ability to interact effectively with funeral home personnel, physicians, and a variety of other people. The qualities of empathy and awareness are important regarding the perception of MUHA by the public and in risk management.

We are a progressive, privately owned, multi-location, high quality firm that offers experience in all facets of the funeral industry, including pet cremation. This is an opportunity to serve your Apprenticeship while learning from some of the best professionals in the industry, but is not a commitment of long-term employment after the completion of the twenty-four month apprenticeship.

As an Apprentice you would work under the supervision of a licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer and will handle traditional duties of a Funeral Director/Embalmer.
