Ethics: ‘Celebration of life’ does poor job of expressing profound emotion

You were talking about funerals in a recent column and snuck in a parenthetical comment describing “Celebrations of Life” as “pathetic.” I take exception. Can you justify your comment?

I thought my one word mini-rant might slip by unnoticed, but several sharped-eyed readers caught me and rapped my knuckles accordingly.

That’s fair enough. Of course, not all “Celebrations of Life” are pathetic; it’s just that really a lot of them are.
